Teddy is a 6 year old, 55 lb. neutered male in Newport, KY
Teddy is a loving, loyal, incredibly smart dog who is looking for a new home where he can feel safe, calm, and comfortable. He is exceptionally well trained, loves following commands, and is happiest with the people he trusts. He’s a cuddler, a comedian, and the kind of dog who becomes your best friend. He is loyal almost to a fault and will do anything to please/protect his people.
Teddy received extensive training and knows and follows many commands. As a young puppy, we was boarded and trained at a local dog trainer. We continue to go to support classes where he works on his commands, leash skills, and focus. He lives to follow directives and has that sharp and piercing Cattle Dog stare waiting for the next order. He is crate trained, can go to place/crate when commanded, and will stay until broken. He is housebroken and has no issues in that regard.
Teddy lives with 2 cats which he gets along great with. We have had no issues with chasing, aggression, or any other behavioral issue in his relationship with them. He is even happy to 'boop' noses with neighborhood cats while on walks.
Teddy has had very minimal exposure to young children. Because of this, I would have reservations with his interaction with unknown children.
Teddy has struggled with anxiety and reactivity, particularly around other dogs and the busy environment of city life.
After being attacked by another dog a few years ago, walks in our neighborhood became increasingly stressful for him, and he can become very overstimulated when he encounters other dogs. He has also developed protective behaviors around his home and his people. On the other hand, he loves to get out for a hike and to chase a ball. He is more than happy to post up under a brewery table and hang out for hours while we have a drink. Given the right environment, Teddy loves to simply exist and take in the moment.
Teddy needs an experienced, patient owner who can provide a quiet, low-stress environment, ideally with limited exposure to other dogs and lots of structure and consistency. He has never intentionally bitten either of his owners, but when extremely overstimulated on walks, he has redirected that stress and accidentally bitten his owner’s leg. Because of this, we believe a calm environment with someone experienced in handling reactive dogs is especially important.
This is an incredibly difficult decision for us. Teddy is not a bad dog—he is a wonderful dog who needs a different environment than we are able to provide. We love him deeply and want nothing more than to find the person who can give him the peaceful, happy life he deserves.
If you think you might be that person, please reach out.
