Making the decision to rehome Kalie has been one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. Every dog I've owned has been a rescue, and I never imagined I would have to rehome one of my own. After consulting with my veterinarian and a professional trainer, I've realized that I'm simply not the right owner for her. She deserves a home where she can truly thrive.

Kalie is a smart, energetic, and playful 1½-year-old Australian Cattle mix Dog. She is healthy, house-trained, crate-trained, and has completed three levels of obedience training. She knows commands including sit, down, stay, wait, leave it, and bed. We're continuing to work on "place" and "settle," but her high energy can make those more challenging.

She rides exceptionally well in the car and enjoys daily walks. She loves having a job and learning, and she needs both physical exercise and mental stimulation to be happy.

Kalie currently lives with my older dog, Molly. While they coexist, Kalie is an alpha personality and frequently wants to play, which can be overwhelming for an older dog. She would likely do best as an only dog or with an owner experienced in managing multiple working breeds.

She is naturally wary of strangers and unfamiliar dogs. I have limited experience with children. She has done well with my adult son and his girlfriend, although she sometimes urinates submissively when greeted or petted. She also occasionally does this with me during petting. She's affectionate in her own way—she'll often come over and rest her head in my lap—but she's not a dog that constantly seeks attention or cuddles.

One of Kalie's best qualities is her intelligence. I have chickens, and with training she learned to completely ignore them. She respects them and has never bothered them.

Kalie is looking for an experienced owner who understands Australian Cattle Dogs and the structure they require. Her ideal home would include:

• Experience with Australian Cattle Dogs or other working breeds a must.

• A securely fenced yard.

• An active lifestyle with plenty of daily exercise and mental enrichment.

• A job or purpose, such as herding, dog sports, hiking, agility, scent work, or other activities that challenge both her mind and body.

• Someone willing to continue her training and provide consistent structure and leadership

This decision comes from wanting what's best for Kalie. She started having some behavior problems sometime in late November/December.​

• She became wary of her collar and leash. She allows me to put it on, taking it off is another thing. She gets afraid and will urinate when I try to take it off.

• A couple of times, while trying to remove the collar, Kalie bit me on the hand.

• She would occasionally growl at my other dog during mealtimes if the other dog passed by Kalie. I sit with them while they eat and never had a problem. However, on one occasion, she bit my other dog over a treat.

I had her examined by the vet in February and no underlying health issues were noted. I also had a behavior trainer come to the house. I can provide more details to potential adopters.

She has so much potential and deserves a home where her intelligence, drive, and energy can be put to good use. If you think you may be the right match, I'd love to tell you more about her.
