Coda is a 6 year old, 45 lb. spayed female in West Roxbury, MA

Coda is a beautiful, intelligent Blue Heeler with a lot of love to give, but she needs the right environment to truly thrive. She would do best in a home without other animals or children, as she values her personal space and can become overwhelmed in busy or unpredictable settings.

She can tolerate visitors, but it’s important that they respect her boundaries. Coda needs time to warm up to new people, often over the course of several days. During that time, slow and calm interactions are key. She will let you know when she’s ready by initiating contact herself. Typically, this looks like her jumping up, whining excitedly, and wagging her tail. Even then, she does best when she is allowed to approach on her own terms, as she can still be a bit skittish.

She is not aggressive toward people in general. However, if someone attempts to pet her before she feels comfortable, she may react by snapping out of fear. This has resulted in minor skin breaks on two occasions, neither of which required medical attention. These situations typically occur when guests approach her despite being asked to give her time and space.

Coda is very well trained and thrives with structure. She is fully house trained, leash trained, and crate trained. She sleeps comfortably in her crate at night and when left home alone. She follows commands well, is extremely treat-motivated, and is incredibly smart. As a Blue Heeler, she has a high energy level and requires regular exercise. She loves playing fetch and going on walks, and would do best with an active owner who can meet her physical and mental needs.

Once Coda builds trust, she is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loyal. She came from a shelter where she experienced abuse, which has made her cautious with new people, but with patience and consistency, her loving personality really shines through.

Making the decision to rehome Coda has been incredibly difficult. I am currently five months pregnant, and I worry about her being around a young child who may not understand boundaries or personal space. My priority is finding her a safe, calm, and loving home where she can continue to grow and feel secure.

I will be carefully evaluating potential adopters based on their living situation and experience, particularly with herding breeds or dogs with similar temperaments. There is no adoption fee required. I am fully committed to helping make this transition as smooth as possible and am willing to assist with transport. I would even consider staying nearby temporarily, such as renting an Airbnb, to help Coda acclimate and ensure a successful transition into her new home.

Coda truly is an amazing dog for the right person, and she deserves a patient, understanding owner who will take the time to see just how special she is.
