Banjo is a 9 month old, 33 lb. neutered male in Hendersonville, NC
Banjo is a high-energy, highly intelligent working-breed dog who loves running, chasing, and mentally engaging activities. Banjo is very affectionate with his family and enjoys snuggling close once he settles. He forms strong bonds with his people and has a lot of personality.
Banjo has not had formal training yet and is still learning basic manners. Like many young cattle dogs, he has strong herding instincts and may nip when overstimulated or trying to control movement. He can be protective of his home and cautious with strangers, so he will do best with an experienced owner familiar with herding or working breeds who can provide consistent training, structure, and plenty of exercise.
Banjo would thrive in an active home that can provide daily physical activity and mental stimulation. A fenced yard or rural setting would be ideal.
Because he is still learning boundaries, he may not be the best fit for homes with small children. He has done some heeler nipping, can bite when excited, has bruised legs and arms.
This is a very difficult decision for our family. Banjo is not a bad dog—he is simply a high-drive working breed, and we want him to have a life where his instincts and energy can be fulfilled.
We will carefully screen potential adopters and ask for a description of the home environment, photos of the home/yard, and how Banjo would spend his days. We are happy to speak with interested adopters and may assist with transport to the right home. An adoption fee or donation to a rescue may be requested to ensure a thoughtful placement.
Our goal is to find Banjo a home where he will be active, fulfilled, and loved for exactly who he is.
