Abbey is a 7 year old, 54 lb. spayed female in Los Angeles, CA

Meet Abbey – Your New Best Friend and Nap Buddy

We are heartbroken to be looking for a new home for Abbey, our wonderful 7-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix. Abbey is the most loyal, loving companion who loves to cuddle up next to you (or on your pillow!), and will happily nap the day away by your side. Abbey does not like strangers or loud noises, but is the most loving dog to anyone she has known for more than 20 minutes.

About Abbey:

* Crate trained (happily naps in her crate when needed and will sleep in her crate if you prefer not to have her in your bed)
* Fully house-trained
* Great in the house and prefers being at home where she feels safe, but loves a yard
* Trained in simple commands like sit, beg, etc. and loves to perform for treats
* Loves activity but doesn't demand it (she's no longer a highly active dog now that she has matured, but she will gladly run around a yard with you)
* Not a fan of leashed walks and won't demand them of you. Loves off-leash outdoor time if available, and adores sunbathing

A perfect day for Abbey would be spent following you around the house, sitting by your side, and napping in whatever room you're in. She loves to be with her person but has also adapted well to being left alone during the work day.

Abbey is a beloved part of our family. I am devastated to rehome her and want to be clear that it has become necessary due to my divorce and having to move, NOT because she is unloved or her behavior is unmanageable. If you are looking for a dog to love you unconditionally, if your visitors are willing to respect her boundaries, and if you don't mind a Cattle Dog alert every time someone is at the door, Abbey may be the dog for you.

She’s been raised alongside our Labrador and gets along beautifully with her, but we don't think she would take well to a home that already has a dog.

Abbey is a true cattle dog—she’s protective and can be reactive to strangers. She barks at new people, doorbells, and other noises. When meeting new people, we recommend they avoid eye contact and keep their hands to themselves at first. Once she feels safe, she warms up quickly and becomes incredibly affectionate. People who respect this rule will have earned her love in about 20 minutes. She has never truly bitten someone, but her hand nipping behavior can be disconcerting to some.

Abbey gets along well with our toddler, but we think she's best suited to a home without young children.

Abbey is a loving, sweet dog who just needs the right setup to thrive. Please reach out if you’re interested or have questions—we’re committed to finding her the best possible home.
