Toby is a 1 year old, 45 lb. neutered male mix in Lawrenceville, GA
Toby is the sweetest, most beautiful heeler/husky boy! My husband and I pulled him from the shelter from the Urgent list from getting euthanized. He is a year old and probably one of the friendliest boys you'd ever meet, he is extremely gentle and his manners are excellent. He does extremely well with everyone he meets, and he loves children. Toby is potty trained as long as he is kept on a schedule, we currently take him out about 2-3 times a day on the leash, as we don't have a fenced in yard and live in a townhome. He is leash trained and walks amazingly well on the harness, he doesn't typically pull very much unless you are trying to just walk him on his collar and then he sometimes will tug a bit.
Toby's current energy level with us is pretty low, however we think he would enjoy a family who could provide either another playmate (another dog in the home) or someone with a fenced in backyard, or even someone who was more physically active. Toby is very smart and within the first few days of having him, he seemed to already be learning to shake! He loves to give you his paw, and sometimes he will jump up to you but he is very gentle and isn't very excitable around people.
Toby does not make much noise, he doesn't howl or bark at noises and he also hasn't jumped up on our couches! (He will stand up on his back legs behind them to say hello behind the couches to say hello lol)
Toby is food motivated, but takes treats very nicely. He doesn't mind you messing with his paws, or taking away his food/toys.
He enjoys playing with the ball and toys as well! He is a very curious boy and we think he'd enjoy being with a family where he could be outside more or even somewhere he could have more "direction".
Toby seems like he needs more activity and is bored, currently we can't leave Toby home by himself because he is not crate trained and when left alone he can become destructive. We don't think this is due to anxiety, but simply because of boredom because he is a pretty confident dog!
When someone is home with him, he is easily redirected and doesn't get into things, he listens extremely well and is the BEST boy. We are working more with him on the crate and think he could definitely be crate trained eventually, it would just take time if someone was home a bit more with him, since we both work full-time this just isn't possible for us. We have been feeding him in his crate and giving him LOTS of treats in there while crating him for short intervals and while he doesn't necessarily like it, I think he could eventually get there with time, just not for the 4+ hour intervals we need him to be in there while we're working.
Toby is an amazing boy who just needs a fenced in yard, or more exercise/stimulation than we can give him and we are hoping to find the best placement for him to thrive, and we are just trying to be his foster family for the time being. He has wonderful manners, would do great with kids or other dogs and we are happy to contribute whatever we can to make his journey easier!
