Stewart is a 7 year old, 72 lb. neutered male in Boston, MA.
Stewart is smiling to see you - and he hasn't even met you yet! Are you looking for a snuggle buddy, best friend, adventure partner, and playtime goof? Stewart is your man. Stewie is a middle-aged man with lots of love to share and energy to use! He is a medium-energy dog that is happy to adapt to the lifestyle you lead. He typically enjoys four 30-minute walks a day, but is also very happy to join you for a 2 hour hike, a few hours playing in a park, or going on all your day-to-day adventures. He is very easy going when comfortable, and likes to sleep all day, get lots of pets from the people he loves, and LOVES to snuggle up to you. He is a total sweetheart and loves to play with tennis balls and hang out with his handler.
Stewart is fully house trained, and is great about letting you know when he needs to go out. He is crate trained as well, and knows the commands for "sit", "down", "wait", "heel" and usually comes when called. He has proper door manners and will sit and wait for you to go out first before he follows, and is pretty well leash-trained (could use some touch ups). He is not food aggressive, and will gently take treats offered. He is also up-to-date on all his vaccines. He is not scared of storms or loud noises, doesn't chase cars, and is respectful when you are eating not to steal food or beg. Overall, Stewart is a total love bug, who is fiercely loyal to his handler and people he likes, and loves to get pets, attention, snuggles, and play with those he cares about.
Stewart moved to the city from a rural area at age 6.5, and is not enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city life. The change in pace of his environment has given him anxiety, and since I am unable to move out of the city with him, I have made the difficult decision to rehome him so that he has a shot at a happier life. While living in rural areas, he has always been the sweetest, kindest pup and loved everybody. Unfortunately, his anxiety in the city has sparked a few new behavioral issues, including fear-based aggression with men within the home and dog reactivity. He does not have these behaviors while boarding in kennels outside of the city, and they have been directly tied to his aversion to the city life by an animal behaviorist, so I am confident they will subside if he lives in a rural home. He is just a little scared of things in the city, and needs someone to rescue him from the chaos! I am hoping that someone can give him a foster or forever home soon, as the animal behaviorist recommended I put him down if I cannot find a way to get him out of the city soon, and I cannot do that to my best friend :( Please give him a forever home!
Stewart is a very intelligent, sweet boy with lots of love to give to his new forever parents. He will quickly integrate into your family and become your best friend, and will do incredible with further behavioral modification training to adjust to his new home and would be a rockstar at trick training or agility. He needs to be in a rural home where he has space to run around in a tall (6+ foot), fenced yard and also would be ideal for him to have space to be by himself in case he is overwhelmed by guests. He would do best in a home without small children, and with an owner who has experience with behavioral issues and dog anxiety. He also would need to be in a home without other animals. I will evaluate potential adopters based on owner experience, location (rural/urban, yard or not), and time available to give to Stewart.
I can assist with transport to his new home, and his adoption fee is $250.00 to ensure he is going to a home where he is really wanted and will be loved and cared for properly. If needed, I can also provide pretty much all supplies needed by new owners. If you are interested, please contact me at email@example.com.
