Sonny is a 3 year old, 55 lb. neutered male in New Bern, NC.
Sonny is a very smart and loyal boy. He’s aims to please, is treat motivated, and learns quickly. Sonny is house and crate trained. He does fine at home without us with access to outside with a doggie door. He is neutered, microchipped, ACD mix in good health. DNA breed/health report available. He knows commands such as “sit”, “down”, “off”, “come”, “okay”, “leave it”, “drop it”, “outside”, and “crate”. He will fist bump if he wants you to take him outside.
Sonny’s favorite activity is playing with his herding ball. He also enjoys a game of tug or playing fetch inside with his toys. He’s happy just spending time with his favorite person. He’s super soft and enjoys a good morning scratch.
Sonny has a history of charging and nipping. His nips/bites have mostly been on arms and usually don’t require a band-aid. This behavior started as a defensive behavior out of fear but may have developed into a controlling mechanism over time. He is uncomfortable around new people and unpredictable movements. He does not do well with one of my children, I suspect due to my son’s erratic movements. Sonny has worked with a trainer. He responded well to her conditioning/corrections at her home without children or other dogs and did not display any charging during a week. Unfortunately, we did not have the same reaction in our more chaotic home. He is otherwise a fantastic boy.
Sonny would do best in and adult-only home with a regular routine and structure. We love Sonny, but he needs a calmer environment to be successful. We’d like to see him in a home with someone familiar with training herding dogs who will love him for the special boy he is. We do not expect an adoption fee but you can make a donation to this organization.
