Shadow is a 3 year old, 40 lb. spayed female in Lake Bluff, IL
Shadow is a very intelligent dog with a wide range of vocabulary and commands. The basics like sit, stay, down, shake, she’s got down pat. She is housebroken (on command), can associate names of her toys, words like foodies for breakfast/dinner. If you are someone who loves training and taking your dog to different classes, Shadow is the perfect girl for you. She is a quick learner, very clever, and a real natural at agility and sniff games. She is crate trained.
We rescued Shadow at 8 weeks and were told she was a blue heeler/jack russell terrier mix. We have managed her breed characteristics for the last four years. From her earliest play she showed a strong prey drive but never aggression. She would chase our kids and nip at their heels to herd them. The movements of children still agitate her so as she got bigger and stronger, we gradually started keeping her in a pen when other kids visited, however she likes to play big running yard games with our kids like frisbee and soccer.
She learns fast and is an incredible athlete. She's enthusiastic and playful, but can sometimes get a bit mouthy when excited. With gentle guidance and consistent training, she'll thrive in a home that understands her need for mental and physical exercise. She is a healthy dog weighing about 40lbs, has been spayed and is up to date on her shots. She does well on leash and ignores other dogs when she crosses their paths. She does well at doggie daycare though prefers the company of adults.
Ideally, Shadow would benefit from:
* A fenced-in yard or one with an invisible fence for safe playtime and exploration.
* An active lifestyle with opportunities for exercise, such as daily walks, runs, hiking or agility training. She excelled at her first agility training class and is lightning fast.
* A patient and dedicated owner who can provide her with consistent training and socialization and can understand and respect her energetic nature.
* An adult only home
From the beginning Shadow connected with me but had a harder time connecting with my husband and children. We went through various training methodologies to help improve this, and she has a good daily walk and play routine. Unfortunately, Shadow got frustrated recently and bit my husband. We realize now that we’ve been trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. We have 3 young children and this just is not the right environment for her.
She would be so happy in a home with time for training, play, and possibly a working environment (like a farm or active household) and would especially thrive with someone experienced in handling herding breeds. She has so much love to give and deserves a great home.
Please send an email with any questions. We are happy to set up a meet and greet so that you can get to know this little lady. We will review all potential adopters and then make a decision. Experienced heeler owners will have priority. We can help with transportation depending on your location. She will come with her food and all her belongings. Rehoming Fee $200 that can go to a local rescue.
