Rhett is an 18 month old, 45 lb. neutered male in Rose Haven, MD.

Rhett is an EXTREMELY ACTIVE and strong-willed/highly prey driven 18 month old neutered male ACD that currently resides on the Anne Arundel and Calvert County line in Southern Maryland. He is completely UTD on his shots and currently on heart worm preventative each month. He is leash trained, walks best with a Herm Sprenger collar, has had some informal e-collar training, is housebroken, crate trained and rides nicely in the car. He is still crated at night and when we are not home due to typical ACD destructive behavior. Rhett was taken in by us at 4 months old due to mild aggression at his first home with other dogs and his pushy, dominant behavior towards their children.

Rhett’s unconditional requirements for a new home are a fenced in backyard, with a 6 ft fence, he EASILY clears a 4 ft fence and does NOT respect electric fences. His other unconditional requirement is no other dogs in the home. He has a bite history with both the dogs currently in his home and new dogs, both on and off of his property. He has a strong prey drive so ideally there would be no small pets or cats but he has not shown aggression towards either. He loves children, I would not recommend him to a home with either babies or infants due to his dominant personality. He currently lives with a 4 year old little boy who he plays nicely with. Rhett has a ton of energy so at times he is too rough, knocks our son over or nips at his legs, but has never shown aggression towards him. He will only go to an experienced ACD owner who understands the complexities of the breed.

He currently lives with two other dogs, a neutered male beagle that is older than him and very submissive and a spayed female shepherd that is younger than him, submissive and very playful, but picks fights with them. It is usually food, toy or space provoked but it has also been where play gets too rough and he snaps and bites HARD. He usually goes for the face or neck of the dog. He’s broken skin on the faces of both the beagle and shepherd, not requiring stitches or the vet.

With new or unknown dogs he is EXTREMELY aggressive. He has attacked an unaltered male French Bulldog, at least 3 times, going after his face and flipping the dog onto his back and going for his throat. He has also attacked a neutered male Doberman, going after his neck, ears and throat.

9/10 times he is the aggressor, actively seeking out the other dog and charging with his hair raised and very throaty growl. This has happened on and off our property.

He nips our sons legs occasionally when he runs in the backyard but nothing alarming or out of character for the breed.

I am willing to drive him to his new adopters home if they are within 3 hours of my home. A $150 adoption fee is required for Rhett, made payable to ACDRA. We love Rhett very, very much and have not come to this decision easily.

Rhett is in Rose Haven, MD.
