Perry is a happy high energy cattle dog-coonhound mix. He loves to play with other dogs big and small and would happily spend all day at the dog park. Loves a chew toy and often brings one up to be held for him while he chews to get optimal angles. Doesn't fetch very well, but will chase a ball around especially with a friend.

Perry will cuddle from time to time, but prefers quality time with his human to be more active.

Enjoys long walks and is good on a leash but is happiest when he can have the freedom to roam on a long line or roam off leash. He is an adventurous hiker who loves to sniff and follow a scent but will always check back in.

Trained using sit means sit ( e collar) he knows an array of standard skills ( sit,stay, come, off etc) and does not need to wear the collar at all times to listen but rather as a refresher or in highly distracting environments. He responds very well to the collar and rarely needs to have any of the higher settings used.

Perry needs a new home because simply put he needs more time for activities than his human can provide. He would do best in a home with a large yard or property who enjoys hiking or being outside. A job would be excellent for him, but so would someone who is able do enrichment activities such as agility, scentwork, or herding.

He exhibits some of the usual cattle dog protectiveness and is quick to bark and growl at people as they walk by the house. When on walks at night he will easily startle and aggress. Perry is very afraid of children and will cower and growl at them, he cannot be in a home with them and ideally doesn't interact with them much. On a walk if he sees them sometimes he will ignore them, sometimes he will growl. On 10% of walks he will randomly lunge at people as they approach. There is not an obvious trend as to the type of person( adult/child), color worn, type of attire etc.

Homes within 100 miles of Raleigh, NC are preferred in order to have a 1 week trial period to ensure a great fit! For anyone interested outside of this radius, this is negotiable.
