Marcello is a 1 year old, 32 lb. neutered male in Hackensack, NJ.

Meet Marcello. According to his DNA Marcello is 50% Australian Cattle Dog and 50% Miniature American Shepherd. Marcello is very lively, alert, intelligent, and responds well to obedience training because he is highly food driven. He is a male, 1 year 4 months, neutered, current on heartworm and flea prevention, microchipped when we got him, weighs about 32 lbs and is up to date with all his vaccinations.

Marcello knows basic commands such as sit, give me paw, high 5, lay down,"touch" (knows to come for a treat) and off. I taught him some phrases in spanish like ven (come), quieres comer (want to eat) he will know it is time for feeding right away and will quickly come over. His next home should continue training and providing enrichment to help him work through some behavior quirks. He is crate trained but it can use more support.

He is sweet and good around children, from the times he has been around them, there has been nothing for us to worry about. He needs more socializing with people since we did get him during the pandemic, but he will warm up to people when they throw one of his favorite toys to him.He can be reactive to dogs that are bigger than him, because he can be an anxious dog and gets scared but he gravitates towards dogs his size or smaller and loves playing with them at dog parks. Like any cattle dog, Marcello is very smart, has the stamina to run miles a day, is independent at times when given the opportunity and always is seeking attention from his humans that love him. He will want to be in your life, and demand an outlet for intelligence and athleticism. Hence why I really want someone who will show Marcello a lot of love, care and attention as well as space for him to thrive for the breed that he is. He would thrive in a home that is in a quiet neighborhood, has a yard or close to a park because he needs ample space to play, run and jump.If you do not have a yard, a quiet low traffic area to walk and train him would suffice. He will not do well in a city environment because he will be very nervous and easily overstimulated by things that make noise and move. The goal for him is to still be able to lead an active lifestyle and be able to go out, see and not overreact when he sees other dogs or people, mainly men.

Marcello was living with just me and my boyfriend, but had a lot of playing time with my neighbors dog who is a 10 lb maltese and got along well with her. He is very protective of his owners and most likely barks at strangers if they come close to us. He is a very happy dog, he loves to play and loves belly and head rubs. You can catch him smiling many times which is always wholesome for us. Due to fragile circumstances, I am looking for a loving home that will make Marcello happy to be a part of that family as much as that family will be happy to have him in theirs. His ideal adoptive family should have this breed experience or experience with reactive behavior in dogs and not be confused with aggression. If you do not have experience you must be willing to have done your research and be able to provide the training and environment that he needs to be successful and happy. He would be a great dog for someone who wants to be involved in training or dog sports or someone wanting to become involved in those things. We have worked with him as best as we could and as our lifestyle permitted, but I will continue working with him until a great home can be found for him.

Up until June 25th Marcello will be residing in NJ then he will be in RI upon waiting for a permanent home. I will evaluate potential adopters to be certain Marcello is going into a safe and loving home. I am also asking for an adoption fee, as I will include everything I have bought for Marcello over the past year and 4 months.
