Killy is a 4.5 year old, 40 lb. neutered male in Arvada, CO.
Achilles (Killy) is sweet, loving, and full of energy. He would do best in a home with active owners who understand resource guarding and how to mitigate it. Such as - swaps for toys or whatever item he might be protecting. Or feeding him separately from other dogs. He knows basic commands (sit, down, place, etc) and will never run off on hikes and adventures. He is a true shadow dog. He is gentle- hearted, but can exhibit signs of fearful aggression en lieu of anxiety. He is not destructive.
We are making the difficult decision to rehome him as there has been a clear escalation in anxiety and aggression since I got pregnant. Where he used to yip and whine if I (his person) would be giving anyone else attention, he has now started “protecting” me from my partner and everyone else. He has steadily become more reactive toward my partner and anyone who comes near me. Hair will be raised and he’ll charge after my partner now that I’m pregnant, if my partner gets up to walk toward me etc. He has snapped at the hands of me and my partner, no broken skin, bruising, or medical treatment required. That was when trying to de-escalate tension.
Despite working with three separate trainers over the course of his lifetime, one since getting pregnant, we are unable to curb this negative behavior and help his anxiety. He has become increasingly more anxious as the days go by.
He is normally a loving and kind dog. ADORES people, likes other dogs, and is the ultimate adventure buddy.
I will assist with transport to any surrounding state. His new owner(s) would have a decently active lifestyle (walks, hikes) and/or plenty of room for him to run. They would be looking for a shadow dog for life and agree to return him to me if it didn’t work out. He needs a home with no small children due to his rambunctious Heeler nature. Adoption fee is $150 or waived with proof of donation to ACDRA.
