Finnic is a 2 year old, 45 lb. neutered male in Oneonto, NY.
Finnick commonly goes by Finn. Finn is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, takes flea and tick medicine each month, and is microchipped. He is house broken, has no problem sleeping in a crate at night, and knows a handful of commands, including: sit, down, stay, come, paw, "leave it", and "get busy". He walks on a leash moderately well, with some pulling. He is an intelligent dog and picks up on commands very quickly.
Finn has a lot of energy, he loves playing outside, specifically playing fetch. His best talent is catching a tennis ball mid-air, and it's his favorite activity. He has tried going on runs with us, and does well, but can get a little distracted. He also enjoys playing in the house and just generally being around his people. Finn is true to the "velcro dog" nickname given to cattle dogs, as he will always follow his people and loves to be with us. He is a very sweet dog, and enjoys sitting and cuddling with us. He can also be very silly, like trying to fit multiple toys in his mouth at once, and is a very entertaining friend to have around.
Finn has not had much socialization with other dogs, and has shown some aggression towards dogs while walking on his leash. He has stayed in a kennel before, and we were informed that he did well with the other dogs, so it may be protectiveness or leash reactivity. He has never bitten another dog. Finn also has had little to no exposure with young children, and may not be the best fit for a home with young kids.
Finn also has separation anxiety, which is the main reason we are looking to re-home him. He had never shown signs of stress induced chewing or destructiveness, until we returned to working in person and he chewed his crate upon being left alone.
Finn would thrive in a home environment where he has someone home with him for the majority of the day. He loves his people dearly, and being left alone makes him anxious. He also needs physical exercise, someone to throw his ball for him a few times a day, walk him, or even take him running. He would thrive in an environment where he can be around someone and outside with plenty of space. A large, bustling city would not be the right environment for Finn.
Finn is a sweetheart, fun to be around, and generally a really great pal. We enjoy having him around but have come to understand that we may not be the best home for him, as we have jobs that require us to be out of the house during the day. We would love for him to have a home that makes him less anxious and provides him with all the physical and mental stimulation he desires. We will be evaluating folks based on if we feel they can appropriately meet his needs and provide a good home environment for him. For the right home, we would be willing to drive a maximum of 4 hours round trip and do not expect any adoption fee. Finn would come with all his medical records, crate, bowls, toys, etc. Please reach out if you have any questions about Finn!
