Meet Clementine ("Clemmie")

​

Clementine is a beautiful 10-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) mix looking for a very special home with someone who understands the breed and appreciates a loyal, intelligent, independent dog.

​

We rescued Clemmie about eight years ago after she was found living on the streets with a litter of puppies. Since then, she has been a devoted companion and guardian of our property.

​

Clementine is happiest outdoors. She loves exploring, digging in the dirt, laying in a creek on a hot day, and keeping watch over her surroundings. Birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and the occasional fox all provide endless entertainment. She takes her job as property supervisor very seriously and will happily announce the arrival of every vehicle that enters the driveway.

She is fully house trained, crate trained, food motivated, and knows her routines well. At night she sleeps comfortably in her crate and enjoys starting her mornings with affection and belly rubs. She is healthy, beautiful, and still enjoys an active lifestyle, although she could stand to lose a few pounds.

​

Like many cattle dogs, Clementine is fiercely loyal and forms strong bonds with her people. She is intelligent, observant, and has excellent instincts. She is not the type of dog who loves everyone immediately. She prefers to approach people on her own terms and does best when strangers ignore her and allow her to initiate contact.

​

Because of her temperament, Clementine needs an experienced dog owner. She is protective, independent, and can be distrustful of unfamiliar people. She has growled and snapped when people have attempted to pet her before she was comfortable, and she can become reactive if startled, bumped into, or crowded.

 

She has never caused serious injury, but she is very clear about her boundaries.

For this reason, Clementine is not a candidate for a home with children. Our grandson is now three years old, and while she was protective of him as a baby, she has become increasingly uncomfortable around young children as he has grown more mobile and active.

Her ideal home would be:

• Adults only

• Someone familiar with Australian Cattle Dogs or other herding breeds

• A rural property, farm, or home with acreage

• A person who appreciates an independent dog and respects her boundaries

• A home with structure, routine, and confidence-based leadership

• Someone who enjoys spending time outdoors

 

A few additional things to know:

• She sheds heavily.

• She is terrified of thunderstorms and lightning.

• She loves treats and responds well to food-based motivation.

• She enjoys having a job and being part of daily life.

• She is incredibly loyal once she trusts you.

 

This is a heartbreaking decision, and finding the right match is far more important than finding a quick placement. Clementine deserves a home where her unique personality, intelligence, and devotion can continue to shine.
