Butter is a 1 year old, 35 lb. spayed female in Gill, MA.
Butter enjoys being with her people and is very much a “Velcro” dog. She likes walks, playing with other dogs off leash and does well at dog parks and doggie day care. Butter requires a little slower interaction with new people and dogs; she will growl, alert bark, then start to show reactive tendencies when unfamiliar people, dogs or cars approach. She has shown a willingness to lunge and be intimidating to people. She is not a fan of wheels (vacuum, lawnmower, car or bicycle tires, if moving, are subject to a fierce nibbling) but with positive reinforcement training we have seen a marked improvement over the past few months. However, once she gets to know other young, playful dogs, she is willing to play all day long with no problems. A home with another happy, playful dog would be best for her. We've been working with trainers one-on-one and in groups settings using clicker training. Her recall is strong but due to her reactive manner, she needs to be on a leash if there are strangers in the area. Butter would do fine in any home that can provide plenty of love, exercise, and some time to invest in finishing her training. We have been thrilled to live with her, get to know her, and do our best to support her growth over the past few months and are confident she will shine in her forever environment!
Based on our vet's suggestion, we've started her on Trazodone and Fluoxetine. This might only be needed while she's living with us because of our travel based summer lifestyle and active construction in our building, but we wanted to mention it up front. She also got a bit of lyme from eating a tick earlier this summer and is finishing up a track of antibiotics.
We're moving out of our apartment in early July and students will return in mid-August. We want to find her a new great home as soon as we can.
