Beau is a 3 year old, 45 lb. neutered male in Bloomfield, KY
He is a blue heeler with basic obedience (sit, kennel/crate trained, responds well to commands).
He has some protective herding behavior, especially around my child. During rough play he has nipped as a warning, but these incidents did not break skin.
There was one bite incident with my stepfather where he bit a hand and broke skin; this appears related to guarding/protective instincts, not ongoing aggression.
Overall he is well-behaved, does well with structure, and would benefit from an experienced herding-breed home.
Location: Kentucky (willing to assist with transport)
Breed: Blue Heeler / Australian Cattle Dog
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Energy Level: Medium–High
Meet Beau, a loyal and intelligent blue heeler who is ready for a home that understands his breed and personality. Beau is house-trained, crate trained, and knows basic obedience — he sits, goes into his kennel on command, and responds well to structure. His shepherd instincts are strong, and he thrives when he has a consistent routine and direction.
Beau does well with other dogs and most pets his size; however, like many herding breeds, he has a strong prey drive and does not do well with small animals (chicks, birds, rodents).
Personality
Beau is devoted and protective of his humans, especially around children. While this protective instinct comes from a place of loyalty, it has sometimes shown up as herding nips during rough play and once involved a bite that drew blood in a guarding situation. With guidance, training, and structure, these behaviors can be managed — he excels when given clear rules and leadership.
He’s affectionate with the people he bonds with and enjoys being part of family life when he knows his role.
Ideal Home
Beau would do best in a home with:
• An experienced herding-breed owner who understands cattle dog behavior
• No small animals in the home
• A fenced yard where he can burn energy safely
• Adults or older children (due to protective instinct)
• Continued training and enrichment
Why Beau Needs a New Home
This decision has been one of the hardest we’ve ever made. Beau’s protective nature, while coming from love and loyalty, has been challenging in our current home, especially around family members. We want him to thrive in a setting where he can be his best self — with someone who appreciates his intelligence and can give him the life he deserves.
Beau deserves a confident, committed adopter who will continue his training and help channel his energy and smarts into positive outlets.
