Batty is a 6 year old 50 lb. spayed female in Cabot, VT

Batty is a really good dog. She has been a great companion over the last 6 years. Due to chronic housing instability and lack of resources, I'm making the difficult decision to re-home her. Our lives have shifted a lot in our 6 years together, but it’s time to pivot so that both of us can get our needs better met.

She is a real sweetie when she’s with her people and is gaining confidence in other social situations. I think she would do really well on a farm or in the woods or a large yard, fenced in if near traffic -- somewhere where she has room to roam, and with someone who has the attention, patience, and space to give to help her shine. Our timeline is by the cold weather.

Currently located in north/central VT, but I am available to help acclimate her to a new situation and work to ensure a healthy transition outside of the region if it is a good fit.

About Batty: She is a typical Blue Heeler, which means she is energetic, playful, goofy, smart, stubborn, loyal and sticks to her people. She is a herding dog, so has a tendency to stick close by and has decent recall. She has historically been picky about other dogs as playmates, and a tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs when I am around — however I have seen and heard from others that she is playful and accepting with other dogs when I am not around. So, I believe it’s something she wants, we just haven’t had the ability to resolve this issue independently. She is an incredible cuddler, and a top notch friend.

  • 6 yrs old, female, spayed, 50 lbs blue heeler, in good health, up to date on all vaccinations.

  • Likes to be near by, follow you around like a lil buddy, and lay next to or near you, but if you want her to but she will also be just fine to lay in her bed further away if you don't want her right up in your space.

  • Very athletic — loves to play frisbee (she can jump so high!), chase balls/sticks and adventure in the woods

  • Often leash aggressive towards other dogs while on walks and has a tendency to want to chase (herd) bicycles and small critters

  • She has not done well living with other dogs in the past due to resource guarding issues so is likely not a good fit for a household with another dog, though with proper integration, understanding and handling, I could see her fitting in with a pack of playful, similar sized dogs.

  • No bite history with humans

  • Loves car rides

  • Extremely food motivated. This has been helpful with training, but also she is a scrounge hound

  • Loves hanging outside in the yard/on the porch etc.

  • She does get territorial when people approach her on her home turf (barking and hackles up) - but as long as people approach her and let her give a few sniffs before entering, she quickly becomes friendly with those she meets and very excited to make a new friend.

  • She has some basic commands — sit/down/stay. She knows her name and comes when she's called.

  • Semi-crate trained. Have done some training with a few different trainers -- mostly obedience and handling.

  • Well potty-trained, no history of accidents in the home.

  • Is not destructive when left alone! She is okay with spending time alone during the day and will be very happy to see you when you get home and excited to play.
