State Shelter Representatives
The State Shelter Representative (SSR) peruses on-line resources like PetFinder.com in search of purebred cattle dogs in shelters within his or her state. The SSR checks under other descriptions as well, as many times ACDs are listed under the Aussie or GSD mix classification.
The SSR is responsible for contacting the shelters listing purebred ACDs and obtaining as much information as possible on each dog. The SSR will then contact the webmaster to update the Shelter Dogs page of the website.
It is the SSR’s responsibility to cultivate a relationship with each shelter contact and to keep accurate records of the contact information so that if the job must be turned over to someone else there is a running record for each shelter we have worked with within that state.
SSRs provide each shelter in their assigned state their personal contact information and let the shelters know they are available to be called when a new ACD comes in.
SSRs must be willing to have their personal e-mail addresses displayed on the website under the Shelter Rep contacts for their assigned state.
The SSR for each state needs to offer assistance with transports (when needed and appropriate) from a shelter in their state OR to a foster home in their state. Transports must then be worked out between shelter contacts from the different states, the shelters and the foster homes.
SSRs must be willing to positively identify a cattle dog in a shelter as a purebred, either by photo or by visiting the shelter in person.
SSRs must contact the rescue coordinator immediately via e-mail or telephone if they find a purebred ACD on “death row” in any of the shelters in their assigned states.
Please note: Rescue assistance from the ACDRA is restricted to the Mid-and North-Atlantic regions of the US, which includes the states between Maine and North Carolina.
