Doug is a stunningly handsome neutered male cattle dog.
Doug weighs in at 42 pounds. He's a loveable guy who loves attention. He is very busy and would fit in great with an active family. Farm living would be a delight to Doug. He LOVES to play ball and can jump 5' from a stand still. I think he'd be an awesome Frisbee dog. Need a jogging or a hiking partner? Doug would thrive on daily, stimulating activity.
Doug is being fostered in North Carolina, but transport can be easily arranged. He's a good passenger in the car. I do keep him crated at night and when unsupervised in the house. He is good with other dogs. I have four other dogs as well. He was cat tested before I got him and showed no interest. He's more interested in humans. Not sure about small children. Dog is being fostered in Huntersville, North Carolina.

My name is Deebo and I am a 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog
I was found running a busy highway in Southwestern Virginia by an ACDRA volunteer. I am a happy, friendly, loyal, and loving boy. I love going for walks, hiking, playing fetch, chasing the Frisbee, and just hanging out with my people. I love car rides and my favorite place to shop is Tractor Supply. I am high energy, active and a busy boy, so I will need someone that will commit to daily exercise with me. I need at least a 4 mile walk/run (or equivalent) every day. As I have a tendency to roam when I get bored, I will need a fenced in yard.
I gets along with all the dogs in my foster home both male and female and I have done well with older children, but I do not like cats. I am crate trained, housebroken, I know how to use a doggy door, and I know basic commands. I do well on a leash. I need an assertive handler that will provide me with firm, consistent rules and leadership as sometimes I like to push the boundaries. I am currently enrolled in an obedience class and it is recommended that my new family continue my training and enroll me in a more advanced obedience class. I am very smart, food motivated and learn new skills quickly. I would also be a great agility prospect.
I am approximately 50 #, neutered, heartworm negative, micro chipped, current on all vaccines, have been wormed and I am on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. I am being fostered in Virginia.

Rambo just wants to have fun!
Don’t let the macho name and looks fool you: Rambo is a cheerful, friendly guy who loves to play with other dogs and is learning how much people have to offer.
Rambo was in a Kentucky shelter as a stray, and made it to ACDRA foster care before we figured out he is deaf. Between one and two years old, Rambo does not seem to have had a lot of human interaction or training, but he is catching up fast! We have been working on eye contact and sign language (“Thumbs up! Good Dog!”), and he is starting to seek out and maintain eye contact. He seems excited when he “gets it right”- sit, down, stay, wait, easy- and enjoys practicing (or the treats he gets for succeeding!)
Since he seems to have been an outside dog, Rambo had a lot to learn about indoor living- and has done so quickly. He will let you know when he needs to go out, seems to understand when you explain that socks are yours and toys are his, and is safest crated when you are not home. Rambo is learning to be comfortable in a crate, and will sleep quietly in it overnight, usually with a collection of bones and toys. When crated during the day, he may whine a bit – that can be cured with a tasty peanut-butter smeared bone!
Rambo is learning to ride in the car: tethered or crated he will look out the window a while, then curl up and doze. He is mastering leash-walking and has run errands, including outings to stores and community events. He enjoys jogging and walks on leash, and has the athleticism to hike or do other dog sports. He is friendly with strangers (human and dog) and responds well to a gentle reminder to take it easy when greeting them. Rambo loves to hike the woods or walk the neighborhood with his ACD foster siblings, sneak toys from his sis, hang with the cats, and keep an eye on his person. He is less high energy than some ACDs: during down time he will gnaw on a bone or doze near you.
Due to his deafness, Rambo will need a fenced yard and/or lots of supervised outings. Because he cannot hear, his eyes are very busy and it will be important that his person be able to get his attention quickly and positively. This is easy, since he wants to be your shadow! Rambo would be fine in a home with another dog, but he will want to be at the front of the line for your attention- gentle reminders do the trick when it is someone else’s turn to be petted. A home without young children will probably be safest: he is still a puppy in many ways, and could easily play too roughly or become startled, or slip out an open door.
Rambo is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, on heartworm and flea-preventative, and will be microchipped. At 42 lbs, he is a compact, sturdy representative of the breed, with a friendly manner and cheerful temperament.
Rambo was called a “Hunka-hunka burnin’ love” by his rescue transport coordinator and she was right! He is a sweet dog who is ready to explore the world with his forever family.
Rambo is being fostered in Maine.

Monet, a Sweet Ginger Gent, seeks Affectionate Companion For LTR.
Hello ladies my name is Monet, I am looking for someone for a serious long term relationship, if you are male and reading this don’t think I won’t consider your home but I’d be more about a guy to hang with, watch the game and maybe share a burger with... sorry no lovey dovey eye staring, well unless there is food involved, I can be bribed. So now back to the ladies because that’s where it’s at for this boy.
If you’ve been on the dating scene for awhile I just might be the best companion you’ve yet to meet, I promise not to hog the bed as I prefer the floor, I don’t stink up the bathroom as I go outside, and thanks to my recent visit to the dentist I have the freshest breath as well and though I will do my best to be a perfect gentleman I cannot always restrain myself and have been known to kiss a beautiful lady or two, I am not shy about demonstrating my affections. I promise not to ask your age or weight if you are not so exacting about mine, let’s just say I am somewhere around 9 years old, and *ahem* roughly 50lbs. I’ll never double guess what you tell me about yours. My cataracts give me vision that are just light and shadow so in fact I will not be lying when I say that dress doesn’t make you look bigger. I can still hear loud noises in one ear but otherwise I tend to sit in the silence, I’ll also never really know if you are talking to yourself so feel free to sing away off key, I don’t judge and I do enjoy the company.
I’m hoping to find someone that will enjoy slow strolls with me, someone that doesn’t mind that I like to stay close and feel you by my side. I enjoy the company of other dogs and even cats. I also love being groomed, reclining on sunbeams and snoozing on my bed. I am hoping to meet someone that will be home a lot just so I can be near them. I am happy alone, or hanging out in my crate but as I’m a pretty low maintenance, trustworthy guy and I’d prefer someone that can spend time with me and wants to spend their days stopping to smell the flowers and perhaps going for a roll in the grass right along with me. So if you like the idea of growing old with this crazy old man send me a message and perhaps we could meet and sniff bums, it is the only way to discover if we’ll have a true connection.
Monet is up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and ready to spend his golden years with you.
He is being fostered in Bethlehem, PA.

ADOPTION PENDING! Ace is a cool dog looking for a permanent place to hang out!
Who wants a buddy to hang out with on the deck, play a little ball, roll in the grass, splash in the water, and then snuggle up with at night? If you do then Ace is your guy! He’s an all-around easy-going and fun-loving boy who loves to play and please his people. And he’s incredibly handsome with a uniquely pink nose and a great big cattle dog smile. He gets along with everyone – people and dogs – male and female – big and small! Ace is currently living happily with four foster siblings.
Ace is about 3 years old, 39 lbs, and found stray in Philadelphia. He was somewhat fearful at first and cowered to quick movements of the hand. But nearly 2 weeks later, he’s much more confident, smiles all the time, and is often the life of the party! He loves to play in the yard with the other dogs and with the family. His new favorite game is playing with the water hose! While he loves to romp and play, Ace is respectful of the dogs who don’t want to play.
He is eager to please his people by responding well to correction and showing lots of love. He is very attentive and appears to be a quick learner. He comes when you call him, sits when you tell him to, and is doing well learning other basic commands like down, stay, wait, and off. He has not shown any toy or food aggression and is super-gentle when taking treats. And at day’s end, he’s ready to snuggle up on the couch with you – and if the couch is off-limits, no worries, he’ll be happy to sprawl out on the floor in a cool spot.
Ace is crate-trained and completely housebroken. In our care, he has proven trustworthy outside of the crate by not chewing household items or messing in the house. He did have some minor fearful or submissive peeing issues when he first arrived, but that ended quickly as he learned to trust us. Ace is neutered, up to date on shots, and ready for adoption! He is currently being fostered in Southampton, PA.

ADOPTION PENDING! Hello, my name is Parky.
I am an 11 year-old female, 32 pounds, and very spry. I am also healthy, spayed, micro-chipped, up-to-date on all my shots and preventatives. Oh, and I'm very irresistible, if I do say so myself! I am petite yet solid.
I am house/crate trained. But once you get to know me I would prefer to be out of my crate, at least at night. I have no food or toy aggression. I share my meals in the same room as my five foster dog brothers and sister. In my own bowl, of course. I happily share my toys with my foster dog siblings and my people. Since I AM 11 years old I require a bit less activity than a younger Australian Cattle Dog. I am happiest when I get to play fetch. I love to play fetch and if you would do this with me as often as possible I would be very content to fall asleep on the floor beside you! I love car rides and going on long walks. I am good on a leash and I know "heel", "behind me" and "stop". The only time I pull on my leash is if I have to do my business!
I know all of the basic commands and I know a LOT of other little tricks that I'd like to show you. I love belly rubs, giving kisses and cuddling in your lap. But I won't jump up on the furniture or your bed unless you invite me. I DO hope you'll invite me!
I need a home with no cats and no young children. I'm kinda set in my ways. I am used to being top dog so a home with one or two easy-going brothers or sisters would suit me just fine. I am looking for my perfect person who understands my age and is ready for lots of unconditional love!! If you are my perfect person and you're over 60 years old, like me (in dog years), then my adoption is free. Parky is being fostered in Lancaster, PA.

ADOPTED! My name is Herbie and I have to make this quick...
...so I can go back to my special recon spot! I like to think of myself as a secret agent spy observing my human and canine foster family, I am trying to figure out why the other canines trust the humans so much, I really want to play with them but their loyalty to the humans makes me a little wary. I came from a shelter in Pennsylvania where I was with my brother and sister. We had little to no human contact during our first six months and I am still very wary of all things “human.” I like to spend 90% of my time in my crate in the middle of the living room (it makes me invisible!) and behind the couch doing recon and surveillance missions. The other 10% of the time the humans take me for walks, which I love! It is the only time I look the humans in the eye and walk near them. After a long walk in the morning and evening I spend a little more time out of my crate on my missions, the walks help me relax and focus more on my observations. I may be very wary of the humans, but I do not want to ever hurt them! Even when my foster mom climbs in the crate with me to clean me up, bring me food, or hook up my leash, I am always pleasant. Alright, that is enough for now; I need to go back to observing!
Herbie is an 8 month old boy living in foster care in Northern NY. Wherever Herbie came from, he has been robbed of those fun playful puppy months. He spends all of his time observing his new surroundings and trying to get comfortable in his new environment. He is very low maintenance and loves his daily walks.
Herbie will need a very dog savvy home, one with some experience in rehabilitating feral dogs. The shelter workers in PA did an amazing job teaching Herbie great leash manners, but he is still very timid and will need a lot of time and patience to build trust in his new home. Although he is not at all aggressive, Herbie might be best suited for a home with very quiet children who understand that he will not immediately be able to trust and play with them. He is fine with the other dogs, including an unaltered male and three altered females. He is crate trained and waits patiently in his crate for his daily walks. He does not yet trust us enough to take treats out of our hands. Herbie has his whole life ahead of him to become a trusting, loving companion dog with the right guidance.
Herbie is being fostered in Northern NY state.

APPLICATIONS PROCESSING! Hi, I'm Kate, a 5 yr. old fun loving ACD
For a couple of weeks after my Foster Mom rescued me from a shelter in Georgia, I wasn't really excited about meeting new people or playing, but that has all changed now. With lots of love and practice I've learned to trust new humans and love to have them pet me!
I'm not really sure what to do with sticks, but I love big soft toys like plush soccer balls or my giant bumblebee toy, anything that I can throw and then pounce. I get along well with other dogs, as long as they aren't too bossy. My perfect forever home would either have no dogs or dogs that are submissive. But I love cats! I can lie beside them, walk up to them and sniff, and sleep in the same room with them because I know they are really the boss! Little kids are too loud and rough and scare me a little; I would be OK with teenager or no kids living with me.
I live on a lake now and even though I don't swim, I love to lie in the water, bite the water, put my face under water, I just love water! My Foster Mom says she hardly has a picture of me dry! I love to lay my head in your lap and roll over for a good tummy rub! I have been accused of keeping secrets because when I was knocked out getting my teeth cleaned the vet got curious and made X rays that showed I've had surgery on my back legs. It is really no big deal, the shelter didn't even know! It just means I don't need quite as much exercise as your typical ACD. I love a walk in the morning and evening and I'm content to watch birds from the porch or nap in front of the fireplace in between. I'll leave the ball chasing and cattle herding to some other dog. I know some commands VERY well (sit & come), stay & down I'm kinda good at. My Foster Mom says I have great recall and I watch my human for cues, unless I think there is a chance I will get to chase a car, but we are working on that too. I take treats nicely; walk VERY well on a leash, am house trained, and mastered the dog door in less than 5 minutes!
I love petting and lots of attention, but not in your bed. I'm happy sleeping in a soft crate even with the door open or on rug beside your bed. Check out more pictures on my Facebook photo album to see me and the adventures I've had in Tennessee.
I am up to date on shots and heart worm & flea/tick preventative as well as microchipped. I am currently being fostered in Ten Mile, TN.

ADOPTED! My name is Wicked and I’m looking for a family of my own
I am a sweet, super affectionate, 50 lb, 6 year old cattle dog. I love tummy rubs, giving kisses and just hanging out with my person, or lots of people! Because more people means more attention FOR ME! I am a bit of a drama queen and while I have lived with male dogs in the past I would like to be the top dog, no other females are needed when you are a *STAR* like me, so I like to be the only girl. I’m good with kids 7 and up, I get over zealous with my affections and may knock over younger children. I am medium energy, walk nicely on a leash and know how to sit. I love hanging out in my crate and will hoard all my favorite things in there. I may do better in a no cat home as I like to chase them when they run but a dog savvy cat would probably be just fine. I do like to bark at strangers when they come in my yard, but once they are introduced to me I just try to hop right up into their lap. I like male dogs but introductions should be made slowly to give me lots of time to get to know them.
I am housebroken, crate trained, spayed and up to date on all my vaccinations. I am ready to make you the center of my world. Wicked is being fostered in Bethlehem, PA.

ADOPTED! Hi Everybody – My name is McGee!
Boy, am I having fun learning what it is like to be a real dog and live in a house. (Okay, maybe it’s a bit stressful sometimes, but my Foster Mom (FM) tells me what a brave boy I am and that makes me feel better.) I’m picking up on this house living pretty fast. I am already house broken, crate trained, and know how to wait for my food with my foster siblings. I get along well with my foster siblings, and never try and dominate them. I am still not sure about this thing called “playing” though. I watch my foster siblings play, but it seems like a lot of noise and craziness. I might give it a try soon. I love (LOVE) my walks through the woods. There are so many smells for me to make mine. I also am learning to enjoy my walks around town too. There are a lot of people and noises, but with my foster brother along for a walk I feel much braver than I would by myself. I am still not too sure about people and my instinct is to move away. I have learned that FM is a good lady and will approach her when she calls me, but not too close. If she moves too fast I just can not help myself and will move away, but I am getting better at controlling that instinct. While I am not totally trusting of people, I never try and hurt them. FM has climbed and reached into my crate to leash me up and clean up; she has walked and reached around me while eating; and I have been to the Vet and had them look at my teeth and eyes. I am a very good boy during all these interactions even though some of them were scary for me. I get to go on lots of car rides with FM and my foster siblings and I am a very good boy and think these are lots of fun, but I do need to be in my hard crate; a soft crate is no match for me (hee, hee, hee).
As you can see, I have definitely lived a bit of a hard life, but I’m not telling my story. FM told me that my looks will not matter as “Wounds heal; chicks dig scars.” It must be true because all the ladies I have met have told me how handsome I am.
Thanks for reading my story and if you want to know more about me becoming your forever friend, send my FM an email. Bye!
Foster Mom Note: McGee’s age is a bit of a question. He was said to be 8-months-old at the shelter, but we think he might be a bit older. Whatever his age, he lost those months and the opportunity to learn to just play and be a dog. Because of this, he spends a lot of time observing the goings on around him. Currently, he will “join” into the group/room, but not the play. He does wag his tail when his foster brother approaches him, but just has not gotten up the courage to play, yet.
While McGee is adjusting to home life very well, he will definitely need to go to a home with experience in dealing with feral/under-socialized dogs or a home that is willing to work on the path he has started to continue his rehabilitation. He will need to be given the time and opportunity to adjust and learn to trust in his new home. He has shown absolutely no aggression at all and no instinct to herd, but, if children are a factor, a quieter home with older children who can understand that he will need time to adjust and learn to play, and not pressure him to do so, would be best. He currently lives with two other dogs; an altered male ACD and an altered female Sato. After proper introductions and a short adjustment period, he has fit into the pack very well. While not necessary, a home with another dog would be best to help him learn to be a dog and give him support to deal with stressful situations. So far his personality is very low-key and he does not appear to be high energy, but that might change once he settles into his new home and becomes more comfortable. He does not have any semblance of a reliable recall yet so will need a yard with a tall, hard fence. If no fenced yard, he does very well with daily walks through my town or walks in the woods on a long line. McGee walks amazingly well on leash. A lot of time was put into this at the shelter and it shows.
McGee was trusting enough to take treats from my hand after 3 days and from others after about 10 days. While he initially would stiffen if I tried to pet him, he has learned to relax a bit and even loves having his butt and neck scratched. If others try to pet him he still stiffens but is non-aggressive; just not totally comfortable. McGee recently went to a cook out with about a dozen people and dogs. He did great, at times coming within 5 feet of the group, following the other dogs and people around, and taking treats from more than half of the people at the gathering (a little liverwurst goes a long way!).
If given the opportunity, McGee is going to be a great dog!! You can see it in his eyes. He just needs to be helped along. He has learned to trust so much is such a short period of time, and will only continue to grow and flourish in the right forever home. Check out his Facebook photo album to see his adventures and the progress he has made.
McGee is up-to-date on all vaccination, is neutered and microchipped, and is being fostered on the Massachusetts North Shore.

ADOPTED! Would you mind cuddling with me or tossing me that ball?
My name is Revelstoke but you can call me Revy!! My foster mommy named me after Revelstoke in British Columbia. She says my name is perfect for me because I like to GO GO GO, I love the outdoors and because I'm such a handsome devil.
I love to go on long walks/jogs and playing in the brook. My foster siblings (husky, ACD mix and cat) and I get along great, we rough house, play tug-a-war and cuddle together-- even with the kitty. My all-time favorite thing to do is get a nice tummy rub and cuddle with my foster parents.
I'm a pretty awesome dog, if I don't say so myself. I know sit, lay down, and I am super attentive. I also am house trained, but come on does that surprise you? I am super smart, and catch on quick. I can even open doors--Amazing right? I leash walk like a champion, all though I prefer to be off the leash, BUT don't worry!! I won’t run away, I like to be close on the heels of my humans; somebody’s has to make sure they stay out of trouble.
I love all people, but if you come to my house be prepared to be interrogated. This is purely for safety precautions; I don't want just anybody coming to my home.
Well if you want an amazing dog like me, fill out an adoption application or shoot my foster mom an email but don't wait too long. A class act like me won’t be on the market for too long.
Revy is being fostered in Maine.

ADOPTION PENDING! "She can't be a cattle dog, she's too... sweet!"
Mabel was found wandering in rural WV early this spring. Backwoods or not, she's a true gem of a dog. At about two years old, she is on the smaller side, a dainty 33 lbs or so. She is thin framed, avoids mud, crosses her legs when lying down, and never leaves the house without her eyeliner (like a true lady).
Unlike many of her cattle dog comrades, Mabel has never met a stranger. She greets everyone with a wagging tail and submissive, laid back ears. She's happy to spend as long as you'll let her just leaning on you and rolling over for belly rubs, groaning with sheer bliss.
Mabel is fine with other dogs, and very much enjoys their company. However, her introductions to other dogs should be mindful. She does not appreciate rowdy, boisterous dogs without manners and will make her point clear, loudly. A leashed walk introduction with her new friend(s) would be ideal. After a good introduction and some supervision, she readily falls in love with her new canine companions, and gladly shares bed space with them. She can show some mild resource guarding with chew toys (to other dogs but not to people), but that can easily be intercepted with a verbal correction. She shows zero food aggression to humans or otherwise, and has been known to happily share a leftover yogurt container with her foster brother. Mabel does marvelous with cats, largely ignoring them or watching them with a cautious eye. Though she hasn't spent much time with children, she is very submissive and sweet with those she has interacted with.
A more well-mannered dog is hard to find! She does not jump on people, does not take food not given to her, and is an absolute rock star on leash. She very rarely barks, and I've yet to hear her whine. Also unlike many of her cattle dog comrades, she has zero herding drive, in fact, she is afraid of large animals. She is house trained and crate trained, happily hanging out in her crate even when the door is open. No separation anxiety has been detected whatsoever (also a rarity for a cattle dog!), and she has been left alone in the house (out of the crate) for a short period of time with no repercussions.
If you are looking for a high energy marathon training companion, you may consider another fine specimen of the breed. Mabel's energy is on the low-medium side. She will jog without complaint, but would really prefer to stroll. A walk around town a couple times per day and a good hike on the weekend is all she really needs to be satisfied. She is a very reliable hiking dog, sticking very close and checking in often. When taken rock climbing, she has proven to be a super stellar "crag dog," hanging around the base of the cliffs, napping and calmly greeting all who pass.
As previously stated, Mabel is a serious gem and an absolute delight to have around. If you're looking for a happy, fun little girl that's ready to go right away, please send questions my way! Mabel is being fostered in Blacksburg, VA

ADOPTED! Patch is a fun, sweet and active boy.
While he is not hyper, he does need daily exercise to get his energy out. This boy is all about active fun – he will wrestle with his four-legged foster siblings, chase balls, swim, or go for long walks right by your side. Someone who is looking for a hiking or running buddy would be a perfect match for Patch! But be sure to keep him leashed – while he is a velcro dog, those squirrels and birds are too tempting for Patch not to chase!
After he has been able to run off some steam, Patch is content to lay by your side (or in your lap) and doze the day away. This boy is velcro through and through, so I hope you weren't wanting a whole lot of private time! What Patch really wants is to be by you, so someone who has time to spend with him is a must.
Patch is a typical ACD in that he is standoffish towards new people and prefers to keep his distance. Because of this and his herding instinct, Patch would not be a good fit for families with children under the age of 13. Due to his prey drive, Patch may be a better fit for a home without cats. Patch does get along well with other dogs and I’m sure he would love a playmate. He would do best with a family or person that is familiar and experienced with the breed and its demands.
Patch is 11 months old (born 6/12/12), 30-35 pounds, neutered and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. He will be microchipped before going to his forever home. While he is currently being fostered in Durham, NC, transport may be arranged to other states along the east coast for his perfect fit.
